The Origins Of "Fairy Tails For Every Child"

This is a post about my inspirations that got me to write "Fairy Tails For Every Child.'

Before I was a hardcore Fairy Tail geek, I was a hardcore fairy TALE geek. 

I love fairy tales, absolutely love them, and have always had a huge fascination with them. I love folklore and mythology as well. I have researched and read so many books with and about fairy tales. Including non-fiction works.

As a child, I was a big fan of Disney (Though I admit I'm still kind of a Disney adult) and I loved their princess fairy tale movies the best. (Though I also love movies like 'Treasure Planet' 'Lady And The Tramp' "Robin Hood'. and "Great Mouse Detective')  and as a result I developed a fascination with them.

My fascination didn't end with princesses. I was also fascinated with fairy tales in general, and I watched the show "Fairy Tales For Every Child" (Where I got the title for my fic) on HBO Kids all the time. As I got older, I discovered books like "Beauty" By Robin McKinley and other fairy tale retellings for an 'older' audience.

One site I was absolutely OBSESSED with as a pre-teen/teen was SurLaLune Fairy Tales. It is still up, and far more extensive than in my...youth.

It had annotated fairy tales, and stories of fairy tales from all over the world, I learned so much about fairy tales and folklore from that website. 

I was also a huge fan of OUAT (Once Upon A Time) when it was on air before it jumped the shark...badly. Oh, boy, they had to squeeze the last bits of life out of it for cash instead of letting it die with dignity. RIP OUAT.

But I didn't come up for the idea for characters getting stuck in fairy tales all on my own...you see.

I once again show my age, but when I was young a movie about superhero kids going to school called "Sky High" came out, and I was really, really obsessed with it. And as most things I looked for fanfiction about it.

But the problem was the VAST majority of fanfics were about OCs getting together with the bad boy of the movie. There was very little content that was canon based. There were two older men in the fandom who were comic book geeks, and were more interested in the superhero stuff and wanted to write more canon-based works around the superhero aspects.

And they did write some of the ONLY good fanfics I read for that fandom. And together they were going to collaborate on a "TV" series of 'Sky High' based on fanfic, of course. So, they threw out ideas and asked people to vote for what 'episodes' they would like to see the most.

And guess what? The most popular 'episode' was...a one where the characters got trapped in fairy tales!

I was SO hyped for it, like...super hyped. But guess what they never got around to writing that fanfic, and the fandom died soon after. I was pretty sad.

But I never, never forgot the concept of the idea of a fanfic where the characters got trapped into fairy tales. And I wanted to use it one day, and now I have my chance.

I know some of you might say I stole and idea, and yeah, I kind of did. But to be fair, is there any fanfic that is completely original? Tropes exist in fandom. And so do certain plots and themes. And nothing is new under the sun.

So, yes, I did borrow the idea of the concept, but the rest is all my own. 

'Fairy Tails For Every Child' is a huge passion project of mine. I wanted to write the fanfic forever, and I hope people can like it. I will do my best on it.

One day, I want to do a fic based on Greek mythology, but I won't spoil what myth and what couple it would be. Just have to wait ;D
